Comprehensive Eye Exams for All Ages
Routine eye exams are essential for maintaining clear vision and protecting long-term eye health. At West Orange Family Eyecare and Old Bridge Eyecare, we use advanced technology to assess your vision, screen for eye diseases, and ensure your eyes are functioning properly. Whether you need an updated prescription, pediatric vision care, or age-related screenings, our comprehensive exams provide a complete evaluation of your eye health.
What to Expect During an Eye Exam
A comprehensive eye exam includes a series of tests to check your vision, eye coordination, and overall eye health. In addition to determining your glasses or contact lens prescription, we use digital retinal imaging and other advanced diagnostic tools to detect early signs of glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases.
Eye care experts recommend annual eye exams for most patients, particularly those who wear corrective lenses or have a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, or other health conditions that may affect vision.
Pediatric Eye Exams & Kids’ Vision Health
Children’s vision plays a critical role in learning and development. Poor eyesight can impact reading ability, classroom performance, and even social interactions. That’s why regular pediatric eye exams are essential for detecting vision problems early.
We provide comprehensive pediatric eye exams to assess visual acuity, eye alignment, depth perception, and eye coordination. Conditions like lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), and focusing issues can often be corrected with early intervention.
For infants, we participate in the InfantSEE® program, offering a one-time free eye assessment to babies between 6 and 12 months old to ensure their vision is developing properly.
How Often Should You Get an Eye Exam?
Eye Exam Guidelines by Age:
- Children: Infants should have an exam at 6 months, then again at age 3 and before starting school. Yearly exams are recommended throughout school years.
- Adults (18-39): Eye exams are recommended every 1-2 years, or annually if vision correction is needed.
- Adults Over 40: Regular exams help detect presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
- Seniors (60+): Annual eye exams are important for managing age-related eye diseases.
